Expected for 2027, the next Peugeot 2008 is already revealing some information about it. We tell you everything!
After being absent from the last major motor shows, such as Munich 2023 and Geneva 2024, Peugeot marked its return to the Paris Motor Show. The lion brand then exhibited its entire range of electrified models. But one of the most anticipated announcements now concerns the next generation of its best-selling SUV, the 2008. The latter should in fact see the light of day during 2027.
A new generation for the Peugeot 2008
The current version of the Peugeot 2008, marketed since the beginning of 2020 and restyled in May 2023, is enjoying undeniable success. Ranked fifth among the best sellers in France, all categories combined, and first among SUVs, it is ahead of its main competitor, the Renault Captur. However, to maintain this leadership, the lion manufacturer is preparing a bold style revolution. The future 2008 will adopt a significantly lower and elongated silhouette (around 4.35 m, or +5 cm). But it is above all its front design which promises to make an impression.
Inspired by concept-car Inceptionthe SUV will integrate the “Fusion Mask”, a bold visual identity already seen on prototypes of the brand. The interior of the future 2008 will also be completely redesigned. The dashboard will be inspired by the Inception, with a new version of the i-Cockpit. The highlight will be the Hypersquare, a rectangular device that will replace the traditional steering wheel and classic controls. With a rotation angle limited to 150°, this innovation aims to offer more intuitive and futuristic driving.
Several engines available
The next 2008 will be based on the new STLA Small platform from the Stellantis group, designed for 100% electric engines. Initially planned exclusively in an electric version, it will ultimately be offered in two versions. The first will be electric, with motors ranging from 136 to 210 horsepower and batteries of varying capacities (from 50 to 70 kWh), offering increased autonomy. For the record, the current version can browse a little over 400 kilometers in a single charge according to the WLTP cycle. That’s not all, because a thermal version will also be offered for customers who wish it.
The latter will use a 48-volt mild-hybrid engine developing no less than 136 horsepower. This will be ideal for those still hesitant to take the plunge into pure electric. The launch of this new Peugeot 2008 is scheduled for mid-2027, still giving the brand time to refine the details. In the meantime, car enthusiasts and brand loyalists will be able to follow the progress of this ambitious project in the months to come.
With this new generation, Peugeot wants to once again confirm its pioneering role in the automobile industry, by combining bold design, technological innovations and progressive electrification. A strategy which aims to consolidate its leading position in a rapidly changing market. The firm, however, refuses to turn to neo-retro, contrary to what its rival Renault wants to offer.
