Many questions may arise in the case of individual vaccines, or even when a new type of vaccine is introduced.

Who can receive mandatory vaccinations in Hungary?

Mandatory vaccinations can be received free of charge by foreign children who have a Thai number in Hungary, or who do not have a Thai number, but who have been staying in Hungary for at least 3 months due to their lifestyle. A third-country child who has a residence permit, has immigrated, settled or been accepted.

How should optional vaccines purchased at the pharmacy be stored?

Vaccines administered by parents must be stored strictly between 2 and 8 °C in pharmacies. It is a good idea to keep a thermometer in the refrigerator, because vaccine kept at a higher temperature or frozen can no longer be administered. Pharmacies have a mandatory so-called to keep a temperature log when checking the refrigerators every day, to officially record the measured temperature. The purchased vaccine must be kept in the refrigerator at home, but must be administered to the person as soon as possible.

What does campaign vaccination mean?

Mandatory age-related vaccinations must be carried out as part of school vaccinations from the age of 11. Children between the ages of 11 and 14 are much more accessible at school than individually. As part of a vaccination campaign, it is possible to ensure adequate protection for a community within a short period of time. Children receive the following vaccinations:

  • MMR booster,
  • booster vaccination (dTap2) with a vaccine against throat lizard, tetanus and acellular whooping cough,
  • vaccination against hepatitis B,
  • with parental consent, children also receive the HPV vaccination as a campaign vaccination.

What are the contraindications of vaccinations?

There are few contraindications to the administration of the vaccine:

  • in the event of a febrile illness or immunological impairment, at which time an individual vaccination plan is developed,
  • an adverse event has already occurred with a specific vaccine – an anaphylactic reaction such as throat swelling, laryngeal edema, shock – in which case it is not possible to administer a vaccine with the same composition,
  • immunization with a vaccine containing a live pathogen is recommended 3 months before the planned pregnancy.

They cannot be considered a contraindication, e.g. neither asthma, allergy, local steroid treatment, chronic heart, lung and kidney disease, stable state of neurological diseases and Down’s syndrome.

How often do some vaccinations need to be repeated?

Different vaccines provide different levels of protection. The duration of protection depends on the disease against which the vaccine protects. At the same time, some vaccines are only able to provide protection against a specific disease for a short time, while others provide lifelong protection.
