1. Dimensions and design – the “pros” are larger and heavier
Dimensions of the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus the following:

Dimensions of the new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max the following:
iPhone 16 Pro – 149.6 x 71.5 x 8.25 mmweight 199 gr;
iPhone 16 Pro Max — 163 x 77.6 x 8.25 mmweight 227 gr.
The case frame is made of titanium, the back cover is matte textured glass, like last year’s Pro models, there is IP68 protection. The front panel has the latest generation Ceramic Shield coating. The choice of colors: black, white, gold and natural titanium.
The smartphone has become larger than the previous generation iPhone 15 Pro and, accordingly, it is larger than the basic iPhone 16.
Who has better dimensions and design: “Proshki” are noticeably larger and a bit heavier, this is the price for the larger screen. The colors of the basic line are brighter and more interesting than the strict classic colors in titanium.
2. Display – the diagonal in the Pro line has increased
iPhone 16 и iPhone 16 Plus have screens of the usual diagonal – 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches respectively. This is the same Super Retina XDR screen with a dynamic island.
Brightness indicators in normal mode, at peak and in HDR mode coincide with Pro indicators. Pixel density, contrast, brightness in different modes do not differ from “pros”. There is even a new option – minimum brightness of 1 nit.
iPhone 16 Pro и iPhone 16 Pro Max for the first time in recent years, they received an increased screen diagonal. Now the iPhone 16 Pro diagonal is 6.3 inchesа iPhone 16 Pro Max – 6.9 inches. The matrix itself, in comparison with the previous generation, has not changed. This is Super Retina XDR with ProMotion and Always-On.
The resolution has increased slightly, but the pixel density, contrast, and brightness in different modes have remained the same. There is a new option – minimum brightness of 1 nit, but it is not yet clear what advantages it provides.
Who has a better display: of course in the Pro line. It’s not about the size and diagonal, but about the availability of the option ProMotion and frequency up to 120 Hz.
Now this is almost the main trump card of all Pro models, when the Cupertino company puts such screens in the basic iPhone, the sales of the “pros” will drop significantly. It is no longer very nice for Apple to offer a 60 Hz matrix in the basic iPhone line, when most Android models in the mid-price segment have 90 and 120 Hz screens.
3. Iron – different, but not significantly
iPhone 16 и iPhone 16 Plus are powered by a new 3-nanometer chip A18 with 6 CPU cores and 5 GPU cores. The Cupertino company skipped the A17 processor generation, in fact, the new chip is a slightly modified A17 Pro from the iPhone 15 Pro. In terms of performance, the models are very similar.
There are modifications for 128/256/512 GB. RAM capacity – 8 GB.

Who has better hardware: the power of both devices is sufficient even for the most demanding games and applications. The additional graphics core of the “pro” should, in theory, help process graphics faster. The difference in performance tests will be at the level of 20%. In fact, both models are equally good.
4. Cameras – the main module is very similar
iPhone 16 и iPhone 16 Plus are equipped with a dual camera module: 48 MP, ƒ/1.6 and 12 MP, ƒ/2.2. There is optical image stabilization with matrix shift. A new anti-reflective lens coating has appeared. The ultra-wide-angle lens has received the ability to take macro photos. And you can also take three-dimensional spatial photos for viewing on a helmet Apple Vision Pro.
You can record video 4K Dolby Vision up to 60 fps. Microphones and post-processing during recording better reduce wind sounds and background noise. The arrangement of the main camera modules has changed.
iPhone 16 Pro и iPhone 16 Pro Max is equipped with three cameras: 48 MP ƒ/1.78, ultra-wide 48 MP ƒ/2.2, telephoto 12 MP ƒ/2.8. It uses second-generation matrix-shift optical image stabilization. Zoom of 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 5x is available. The indicators are the same for the regular version and for Max.
There is a new anti-reflective coating on the lenses. The ultra-wide resolution has increased, you can shoot 48 MP macro photos. The Pro line has a night portrait mode, adaptive True Tone flash and shooting in Apple ProRAW format.
You can record video 4K Dolby Vision up to 120 fps, ProRes video in 4K up to 120 fps and Slo-mo in 4K up to 120 fps. And the “pros” also have improved the quality of sound recording on the built-in microphones.
Who has better cameras: The main 48-megapixel camera module, which takes most of the photos, is almost identical in smartphones (the aperture differs slightly). You will have to look for the difference in the photos with a magnifying glass. The ultra-wide lens in the Pro line has been greatly improved, and in theory, photos from it should be more detailed. Plus, the more expensive line has a telephoto lens for optical zoom. And yes, there is also LiDAR, which was initially presented as a super assistant for the camera, but then it turned out that most of the effects are calculated by software and work great on smartphones without a rangefinder.
The “Pros” definitely have advanced video shooting capabilities, this is the only worthwhile difference that not everyone needs.
5. Other differences
► Apple promises that the Pro line has received a serious boost in battery life. iPhone 16 Pro should work in video playback mode for up to 27 hours, and iPhone 16 Pro Max and even up to 33 hours. The models of the basic line have indicators of 22 and 27 hours, respectively. Most likely, the owners of the “pros” will get several additional hours without recharging per day.
► The USB-C port in the Pro series transfers data much faster. In fact, only a few people need this feature.
There are no other differences between the lines.
All the differences in brief
Dimensions and design: The dimensions and weight of the “pros” are noticeably larger.
Screen: The new Pro line has a 0.2-inch larger diagonal, but more importantly, it has ProMotion and 120Hz.
Iron: differs slightly, the difference will only be visible in tests.
Camera: As always, the Pro models have an advantage due to the third telephoto lens, and in this generation the ultra-wide lens on the Pros has also become better. But the main module is almost the same.
Other differences: The Pro line has more video shooting capabilities, better battery life and a faster Type-C port.
What’s the bottom line: The only significant difference between the lines is the 120Hz screen on the Pro models. This alone is worth paying extra for, but you can always choose last year’s cheaper iPhone 15 Pro. If you haven’t used ProMotion devices before or don’t notice the difference in the matrix refresh rate, you can safely take models from the basic line.
