WhatsApp adds a major new feature for Channels

WhatsApp introduced Channels last year, a new one-way way to send text messages, photos, videos, and stickers to a large number of people at once. After the update that added voice messages and polls to Channels, the platform is now implementing a new advanced feature: search by category.

With this update, users will be able to find new Channels to follow based on specific categories. These include: People, Organizations, Lifestyle, Sports, Entertainment, Businesses, and News & Information. WhatsApp thus aims to make it easier for every user to discover content that is relevant and interesting.

Currently, according to WhatsApp data, over 500 million people around the world use Channels every month. Among the most followed channels we find well-known names such as Billie Eilish Home, Rosalia, UNICEF Official, NFL, Inter Miami CF Official e Netflix.

In January, WhatsApp made it possible to send voice messages and create polls within the Channels, with approximately 7 million audios sent daily through the platform. Another new feature was the increase in the maximum number of administrators for each channel, now set at 16.

Recently, WhatsApp also introduced support for animated stickers provided by GIPHY and is working on a similar feature to AirDrop to facilitate file sharing between devices.

The new features for WhatsApp channels are rolling out globally and should be available to all users soon.
