WhatsApp is getting a new security feature. You will surely appreciate it

  • Meta adds a new security feature to WhatsApp
  • It should help with detecting fake images
  • Authenticity is verified with the help of the Google search engine

In the era of rapid development of artificial intelligence and generative models, it is often no longer easy even for experts to distinguish a real photo from one created with the help of AI. These are usually common images that cannot endanger anyone. But AI can easily be misused for creation deepfakes. And even the biggest tech giants, including Meta, are aware of it.

That’s why to your chat application WhatsApp plans to add a new safety lock. As soon as you receive any image, it is sent to the search engine from Google and through it verify its authenticity. It will be important that the application itself will not process the images in any way and everything will happen precisely through the verification of authenticity on the Internet.

This is definitely good news for users. This feature, which was discovered by WABetaInfo, is included beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.21.31. And if you want to use it, it will be necessary by hand activate it in WhatsApp. It should aim primarily at forwarded messages, not at all messages from your contacts.

Are you verifying the images or do you fully trust their authenticity?
