WhatsApp splits into four

It’s one of those features that makes you wonder, “ How did that not already exist? ». WhatsApp introduced finally the draft messages. No need to restart a conversation wondering what you wrote, the app now displays the word “Draft” in bold green next to your unfinished messages. Best of all, these drafts automatically move to the top of your conversations list. No more excuses for ignoring your friends (unless you’re doing it on purpose!).

Drafts so you don’t forget anything

Available worldwide since this week, this new feature, as simple as it is effective, adds to the long list of improvements that WhatsApp has deployed in recent months. With its 100 million active users each month, the flagship messaging application continues to refine its tools.

Another big change: personalized lists. If your inbox has become a battleground between family discussions, those with colleagues, and those with all sorts of other groups, you might appreciate this option. It is now possible to create specific categories, such as “Family” or “Office”, which appear at the top of the conversation list. No more endless scrolling looking for the right discussion.

Creating a list is child’s play: a simple click on the “+” icon in the discussions tab allows you to group your chats by theme. Whether individual conversations or groups, everything can be stored. And good news, this feature is already starting to appear on Android and should be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

Finally, the integrated address book makes its apparition. Until now, WhatsApp relied on the smartphone’s directory to manage contacts. But that is in the past. With this update, it is possible to save contacts directly in the application, on all your devices, even on the web version. And if you share your phone with other users, your list remains private and linked to your account thanks to an encrypted storage system.

Another little nugget to come: usernames. Soon you will be able to register your contacts via a nickname, without having to disclose your phone number. Useful for keeping a little anonymity or avoiding sharing too much of your personal information. WhatsApp promises that this new feature, which adds a welcome level of privacy, is just the beginning.
