But now users of the messaging app are receiving a Gen AI update from another source. Because Microsoft provides its own all-round AI Copilot for WhatsApp. This allows users to start various interactions with the copilot directly in the chat and even have AI-generated images created or prepare for job interviews. In one dedicated blog post Microsoft explains that Copilot is now available as a chat option for WhatsApp users. The AI chat option is still limited: Voice and vision features à la ChatGPT, which the tech group is introducing for AI, are not available in this context. And the AI does not respond to voice messages in the chat either. But you can receive support in various contexts via text message, even in German.

The Microsoft website presents the option of opening the Copilot Chat by simply scanning a QR code. That worked for us too. As soon as the terms and conditions for use are accepted, users can use the Copilot.
For example, the copilot allows the creation of AI-generated images in the chat. He can also answer questions for you. You can even ask the AI about yourself and receive an answer with a reference to the source. In addition, the copilot can be available to you as a sparring partner, such as in a job interview, or simply as an answering entity in the chat.
If you try out the function, the copilot will appear in your chat list like a regular contact. The option may not offer anything that you couldn’t do with other AI tools or chatbots, but the integration into the widely used app WhatsApp could act as a shortcut for some users. This can be particularly helpful for those who cannot access the integrated Meta AI.
Meanwhile, Meta is optimizing the messaging app itself with new functions such as sticker integration on Instagram for direct guidance into the chat and a significant expansion of the status feature. This has the option of integrating music, mentioning people and liking posts – just like in Instagram Stories.
