Colder winds, dark mornings and snowfall mean that it is getting closer to Christmas. December, the darkest month of the year, not only brings darkness and cold, but also a lot of coziness, shopping and fixing up for the Christmas celebration.
Some people love December precisely because of the high coziness factor, while others rather experience stress and want the month to pass quickly with all the mess Christmas tends to result in.

If you are a person who feels stressed about everything that Christmas means to you and your family, it may be time to take a vacation before the end of the year. If you have vacation days saved, you can maximize the time off by spending only a few vacation days.
News24 has previously explained how long leave you can get if you take five days of your remaining holiday in December.
December contains more red days that fall in such a way that you can get a full two weeks of continuous leave.

Christmas shopping eats up money – when will you get paid?
Something else that belongs to the month of December is that money is spent at a furious pace. Even if the Christmas gift trade lost around half a billion in 2023 due to the then prevailing inflation, the Swedes spent 21.5 billion kroner in total during December.
As the money quickly leaves the account for both Christmas presents and food purchases, it can be safe to know when the next salary will arrive in the account. Especially in December when the payment date can vary.
Usually, the salary from work is paid on the 25th of each month. But in December it can differ by several days depending on where you work, which employment contract you have and what the employer specified in the employment contract.

When do you get paid in December 2024?
The union states on its website that there is no law that says the salary must be paid on a specific day, but that it must be stated in the employment contract when it is to be paid.
With that in mind, it can differ from individual to individual when the salary lands in the account in December 2024. Most people probably hope and want the sum in the account before Christmas Eve to be able to buy the last thing for the Christmas table and gift bag. But it is not a foregone conclusion.
“If it is stated in the employment contract that the salary must be paid ‘no later than the 25th’ of each month, then the employer must pay the salary on the last banking day (weekday) before the 25th, if the 25th falls on a Sunday, for example. In that case, the salary must be paid the Friday before. If it only says ’25th’ in the employment contract and it is a Sunday or holiday, the salary can be paid on Monday,” writes The Union.

You will then receive salary on 23 December 2024
Although it is easy to think that Christmas Eve is a red day, it is actually not. December 25, on the other hand, is a red day and falls on a Wednesday in 2024. This means that you cannot receive any salary on that day.
The site Simploy explains that if it is not stated in the employment contract that the salary is paid the following month if the 25th falls on a holiday or red day, then the salary must be in the employee’s account on the weekday before December 25. This means that you can look forward to a salary as early as Monday, December 23.

Then you will not receive a salary in December 2024
Civil servants usually receive their salary the same month it is earned. This means that if, for example, you started a new job on December 1, that month’s salary will be paid on December 25, or the next Monday or following weekday, depending on what is written in the employment contract.
However, there are individuals who risk not receiving any salary at all in December 2024. This applies to those who, for example, started a new job on December 1 and receive a salary the following month, then the salary earned in December will not be paid out until January 2025.
If you were not employed before you started your new job, no salary will be paid at all during December 2024.
