When Google releases the next major Android update next year

Google is releasing Android 16, the next major update for smartphones, earlier than usual. The American company would like to release the software in June next year. Android 15, the most recent operating system, was released on October 15 this year.

Report sources told Android Headlines that Google will release its Android 16 update for the Pixel phones as early as June 3, 2025. That is more than four months earlier than the release of Android 15 this year.

There is no clear reason, but Google announced last week that it was overhauling its software update schedule. The company gives itself room to release a smaller update after the launch of Android 16.

Google often postponed the release of a new major update, but previous versions always appeared between August and October. As a result, the new Pixel smartphones almost always appeared at the same time as the new operating system.

This usually caused many problems with the new Android smartphones. The Google Pixel 9 appeared before the Android 15 update, which disappeared the problem. The fact that Google has time to perfect the software is therefore good news for next year’s Pixel 10.
