Since November 4, the Paris ZTL is officially in force. But when will the verbalizations start?
It’s official, since Monday, November 4, a new Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) has come into force in the heart of Paris, prohibiting access to motorists in transit in the first four arrondissements of the capital. A measure mentioned for a little while, but which was nevertheless implemented almost overnight by the municipality, to the great dismay of drivers. This decision, aimed at. reduce pollution and to calm traffic in these sectors, specifically concerns vehicles which only pass through these districts without stopping there.
Fines in the Paris ZTL?
However, a central question concerns users: how will controls be organized to verify the compliance of motorists? Because to have the right to travel in districts 1 to 4it is imperative that something be done about it. For the moment, you can already be reassured. Indeed, for the moment, the Paris town hall has announced a period of tolerance ofat least three monthsduring which the checks will be mainly informative. Indeed, during this phase, it will not be a question of fining the offenders, but rather of raising their awareness. Ariel Weil, mayor of central Paris, explained on BFM Paris Île-de-France that law enforcement, in particular the municipal police, will carry out random checks aimed at providing explanations and warnings to the motorists concerned. The order signed by the Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, also specifies the control methods. Any driver traveling in the ZTL must be able to present a document or title justifying their authorization to travel in this zone.
A vast perimeter
However, questions remain regarding the exact documents to be provided. Is a receipt needed to prove a purchase made in the sector, or a QR code attesting to an authorized destination? For the moment, the details of these supporting documents have not yet been finalized, but should be clarified over the course of the prevention period. By the way, which area is really affected by this ZTL? In fact, the latter extends from north to south, from Boulevard de la Madeleine to the quays of the Seine, and from east to west, from Place de la République to Place de la Concorde. In particular, Boulevard Sébastopol, a busy axis with more than 350,000 vehicles daily, is included in this perimeter, as are major boulevards such as those of the Capucines, Montmartre, and Saint-Martin. Certain categories of vehicles will nevertheless benefit from exemptions. Taxis and VTCs, vehicles for people with reduced mobility, health professionals, as well as residents and local traders will be able to continue to circulate within the perimeter of the ZTL without risking an infraction.
This list also includes deliveries, under certain conditions, in order to guarantee access to businesses and residences. However, we will have to wait a little longer before knowing everything about this new measure, which is already causing people to cringe.
