Pets transported by personal car can bring drivers a fine of up to 3,300 lei if they do not comply with the law.
For example, this sanction can be applied when the cat or dog is not in the right place.
How to transport a pet by car
The Highway Code establishes that you can only transport animals in the car under certain conditions. And those who do not comply with these rules risk receiving a drastic sanction.
„It constitutes a misdemeanor and is sanctioned with the fine provided for in class IV of sanctions (…) transporting animals on the front seats of vehicles“, states Article 102, Para. 1(27), of the Highway Code.
So, those who leave their puppy or cat in the front seat risk receiving a penalty of between 9 and 20 fine points. Which means applying a maximum fine of 3,300 lei.
Does the pet need to be transported in a cage?
To legally transport a pet in a car, it must be kept in the back seat.
The cage is not mandatory, it can be one of the best and safest ways to protect your dog or cat in case of an accident. It can be fastened with the seat belt or, if it is small, it can be put down, behind the driver’s seat.
There is also the option of a car seat for pets. It is similar to the children’s one, except that it is shaped like a basket. It also fastens with seat belts and has a number of special dog or cat harnesses inside.
A special harness for puppies or cats can also be used. This is a kind of collar, which is attached to the neck and chest of the quadruped and then connected to the safety belt.
