Last-minute football transfers sometimes bring action movie moments.
Pavel Zíka and his two sons Filip and David have been running their own company Global Sports for many years.
He represents several Slovak footballers, including the representative team of Martin Dúbravka.
They have had several last-minute transfers, including the loan of Dúbravka from Sparta Prague to Newcastle š1. January 2018.
“It was the last day of the transfer window. Sparta was urgently looking for a replacement. Father stayed at home and dealt with Florin Nita’s transfer to Letná, and Filip and I flew to England. We finished it two minutes before midnight.
When the green pipe flashes in the system and you know that the player is registered, there is euphoria. Then you were happy like the players on the pitch who scored a goal,” David Zíka recalled for idnes.cz.
In the end it was done. However, the Zíkovs admitted that Newcastle also did their best to complete the transfer of the Slovak representative.
“Newcastle were playing a match against Burnley at the time and the doctor ran off the bench to check on Martin’s medical. When that was done, coach Rafael Benítez invited us into the office.
We got ice cream. So we discussed with her what awaits Martina in Newcastle,” added David Zíka.
His father’s company also represented the former Czech football super talent – Martin Fenin.
However, the former excellent striker was destroyed by lawsuits, bad lifestyle and especially alcoholism.
“I’m sorry. I knew him as a great boy from a good family. A higher power must have intervened. When you have the devil inside you, it’s hard to fight it.
We tried to speak to his soul, we traveled to Frankfurt to see him and also discussed it with the management.
We proposed solutions and mental coaches for him. Nothing worked, he chose a different path,” revealed Pavel Zíka.
