How can you cool the air inside your home on hot nights? A counterintuitive idea is actually the best one.
On hot days and nights, installing a fan at home is a good idea. But you still have to put it in the right place…
Beware of obvious ideas
The very principle of a heatwave is having to endure high temperatures, exceeding 35°C, which hardly drop during the night. How can you, in these conditions, manage to cool down and get to sleep?
Sometimes the simplest or most obvious ideas are not the most effective. Sleeping naked won’t change anything, nor will taking a cold shower before going to bed.
A fan in front of the window
If your home is not air-conditioned, the most effective way to do this is to turn on your fan. This is a good way to circulate the air in your house or apartment, especially if it is a through room. As long as you put it in the right place, which is probably not the one you would think…
In fact, although it seems absolutely contradictory, it is in fact in front of your open window that you will have to place it, facing outwards. A location that may seem counter-intuitive, but in fact very logical: This will create a flow of air, but in the right direction.
Suck in fresh air
In fact, in this way, at nightfall, the hot air from your interior will be evacuated to the outside by the fan, and replaced by the outside air, in principle a little cooler. The hot air is extracted, the fresh air sucked in. In the space of a quarter of an hour, you will have renewed all the air in your interior.
But why stop there? You can also add a damp cloth in front of your fan. This way, the water will capture some of the heat from the air, helping to cool your room even more. And if you really can’t seem to freshen up your mind, consider getting a mister and using it whenever necessary.
