White House National Security Communications Advisor Kirby evaluated the foreign policy agenda of the Joe Biden administration at the press briefing at the Foreign Press Center in Washington.
Emphasizing that they are closely monitoring the developments in Syria, both in the context of the transition process and the fight against DAESH, Kirby also shared their approaches to both Turkey’s security concerns and the terrorist organization PKK/YPG.
Responding to a question, Kirby said, “We understand Turkey’s (Syrian) legitimate security concerns along the border. Turkish citizens there and Turkish cities have been attacked by terrorists crossing that border. Turks have the full right to defend themselves against terrorist attacks; we understand that and are on this issue.” “We are in active talks with the Turks.” he commented.
The claim that “the only purpose of our military presence in Syria is to fight against ISIS”
Kirby added, however, that the anti-DAESH mission should not be interrupted and that they do not want the attention of the SDF (terrorist organization PKK/YPG) in Syria to shift to “things other than the anti-DAESH fight.”
Evaluating the presence of US soldiers in Syria, Kirby said, “We have a small military presence in Syria and our soldiers are there for only one purpose, and that is to continue the fight against DAESH.” he commented.
Stating that DAESH cannot be allowed to revive during the transition period in Syria, Kirby stated that their partnership with the SDF (terrorist organization PKK/YPG) in Syria is also within this scope and that they want this cooperation to continue.
