The Israeli military said it captured 240 suspected Hamas fighters during a raid on a hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. Among those arrested is the director of the hospital Husam Abu Safejawho, according to the military, is suspected of being a “terrorist cadre” of Hamas. The military claims that a Hamas command center operated in the hospital, which the Palestinian movement denies.

The WHO, however, said that the Kamal Advan hospital had ceased to function due to the Israeli military operation and was now empty. At the same time, the organization emphasized that it is appalled by the operation and that hospitals have once again become a battlefield. “The systematic destruction of the health system and the more than 80-day siege of northern Gaza threaten the lives of the 75,000 Palestinians who remain in the area,” she also warned. The Kamal Advan hospital has already been the target of attacks by Israeli forces, who have been attacking the northern part of the Palestinian enclave for several weeks.
