This is a question that has been plaguing fans for many years. Why are Sith lightsabers red? And how do they become red? Here’s a quick recap for those who may have forgotten.
Warning, the following article contains SPOILERS about the plot of the eighth episode of the series The Acolyte. If you have not yet seen it, we strongly advise you to stop reading now.
Yoda, Dark Plagueis, the hunt for Qimir, the myth of Vernestra and Osha’s lightsaber, what you need from episode 8 of The Acolyte
Season 1 of the series Star Wars : The Acolyte delivered its verdict this Wednesday, July 17. Leslyle Headland’s series ended in a way that left many avenues open for the future (it remains to be seen whether a possible season 2 will allow them to continue). Among the notable events to remember, the appearance ofa mysterious silhouettewho is suspected to be Darth Plagueis, or Yoda’s cameo on the final level, thanks to a fan service that has become the trademark of the Disney version of Star Wars. For his part, Master Vernestra will seek to find his former student Qimir with the help of Mae, who has amnesia. To do this, she reappropriated the tragic story that occurred on Brendok, 16 years earlier, by blaming the death of the Jedi on Sol, who was subsequently eliminated by Osha.
After discovering the truth about the death of his “parents”, Osha, in a fit of rage, killed her former master Sol with the Force, turning her to the dark side. This materialized as the change of color of his saber, gradually turning from blue to red (this is the first time we see the inside of a saber). Never has such a change in color of a Kyber Crystal been shown on screen in live-action
the origins of the sith red lightsabers
To materialize Osha’s plunge to the dark side, and the origin of the color of the Sith lightsabers, Leslyle Headland went to draw from the universe of comics of the galaxy far, far away. Indeed, little information (for those less familiar with Star Wars mythology) is provided on how these lightsabers are created and what determines their color.
It was Palpatine who explained the process to his disciple Darth Vader after Revenge of the Sith In Star Wars – Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith 1written by Charles Soule and published by Marvel Comics in June 2017. He tasked Darth Vader with finding a Jedi survivor and killing him to take his crystal. After killing Jedi Master Kirak Infil’a, Vader took his crystal to Mustafar and poured out his pain and anger to alter its color, and therefore that of his lightsaber. We are talking about bleeding. The lightsaber of a killed Jedi will then be perverted by the hatred, anger and therefore the evil of its new owner, and will bleed to turn red.
This is how the series makes us understand that Osha is turning to evil. She therefore joins Qimir, who will take charge of her training. If there will be a season 2 (its writing would already be underway, even if nothing has been confirmed by Disney at the moment), It should largely be devoted to the Sith and their origins.. The bridge should be made with the prequel in order to explain the events that led to their return in The Phantom Menace. And the appearance of Dark Plagueis, who seems to be pulling all the strings from the beginning, will serve as a plot twist.
