(Health Korea News / Kang Min-na) Is there anything more refreshing than cold noodles in the sweltering heat? No matter how hot it is, a bowl of cold noodles can make you forget the heat for a moment. Recently, the number of people looking for Pyongyang cold noodles has increased, and there are quite a few people who go on a pilgrimage to the best Pyongyang cold noodles restaurants across the country. However, there are some who suffer in silence while watching the fire across the river while eating cold noodles. It is because of the coldness.
Dentists say that sensitivity is a warning sign that your teeth are not in good health. Sensitivity is a precursor to full-blown pain, just like when you put your hand on ice, it feels cold at first, but after a while, it becomes very painful.
▲The cause of sensitive teeth is bad lifestyle habits = The reason teeth are sensitive is because the nerves inside the teeth are exposed. Teeth are made up of the hard ‘enamel’ on the outside and the yellow ‘dentin’ inside. Although dentin is invisible, it has tiny holes (dentinal tubules). These holes are connected to the nerves and can react sensitively to external stimuli when exposed. Therefore, if the enamel wears away due to bad habits or aging, or if the dentin is exposed to the outside due to cavities or gum disease, the nerves are naturally stimulated and the teeth become sensitive.
The biggest cause of sensitive teeth is lifestyle. Brushing your teeth too hard or drinking a lot of carbonated beverages can cause the enamel to peel off, which can cause sensitive teeth. Some people grind their teeth while sleeping, and in this case, the physical force applied to the teeth is 2-3 times more than usual, which can also cause sensitive teeth. In addition, having a habit of clenching your teeth or chewing ice or candy instead of melting them can also cause tooth aging. In particular, Koreans eat a lot of chewy food, which is why the number of cases of cracked or broken teeth is overwhelmingly higher than that of foreigners.
▲Proper brushing is the basis for preventing sensitive teeth = In order to prevent sensitive teeth, consistent and accurate brushing is the basis. When brushing, rather than moving the toothbrush left and right, tilt it at a 45-degree angle and gently sweep from the gums to the teeth. Start at the border between the teeth and gums and brush each tooth about 20 times. It is better to hold the toothbrush lightly with your fingers rather than your palm to avoid applying force when brushing.
If you leave sensitive teeth untreated, inflammation can occur at the tip of the root and the tooth nerve can die. The nerve can become necrotic and eventually the tooth itself can be lost. Sometimes people say that their teeth are sensitive after scaling, but scaling is not about cutting the teeth, but removing the dental plaque and tartar stuck between the teeth. The tooth roots that have already been exposed due to gum disease can easily be damaged on the surface by scaling or periodontal treatment, but if left untreated, the dental plaque or tartar can cause a worse situation.
Most people tend not to think of teeth as hard and living tissue, but teeth are living tissues with nerves and blood vessels inside and react to various situations. Even if your teeth are sensitive when you get scaling, there is no need to worry too much as it will naturally improve after a certain amount of time.
▲Using toothpaste specifically for sensitive teeth also helps with treatment = Treatment for sensitive teeth is basically done by blocking the exposed dentin surface. There is a method of filling in the worn-out area using a filling. Materials such as fluoride can also be used to bind to the calcium in the teeth and block the holes in the dentinal tubules.
Toothpaste for sensitive teeth contains particles that can block exposed dentinal tubules. Since toothpaste for sensitive teeth has a weak plaque removal function, if you brush your teeth three times a day, use toothpaste for sensitive teeth twice and regular toothpaste or toothpaste for plaque removal once to help maintain cleanliness of your teeth.
