Why does a cat like to chase its tail so much?

Is your cat constantly chasing its tail? If you have noticed this behavior, it may mean that the cat is just playing, that it is curious, or that it is under stress.

A cat’s tail is a very prominent and important part of its body, with which the cat sends various signals. Thus, there are at least 10 different positions of the tail and each of them has its own meaning, i.e. conveys a message.

So, for example, a high-raised tail indicates that the cat is confident and friendly, and a tail in the form of a question mark also conveys positive vibes.

On the other hand, a tail between the paws or a tail wrapped around the body does not mean anything good – the cat is probably scared or not feeling well.

And what does it mean if a cat chases its tail?

There are several different reasons behind this. Cats are curious by nature, and tail chasing is their favorite game, especially for younger ones.

The tail can shake, move, I can never quite catch it and stuff, all of which makes it very attractive. In addition, cats have a strong hunting instinct and enjoy chasing – if for no other reason than to chase their tails.

But sometimes cats chase their tails simply out of boredom or because they have too much energy that needs to be spent somewhere. Maybe your cat is telling you that there is not enough mental and physical stimulation and that you need to spend more time with her.

However, it sometimes happens that tail chasing indicates more serious health problems that require professional help.

The behavior may indicate allergies, skin problems, infections or even neurological problems. Therefore, if you notice that the cat does this often or even bites and injures itself, be sure to consult your veterinarian.
