A wild mother elephant died while giving birth in Teknaf Hills bordering Cox’s Bazar upazila. Later a baby elephant (cub) was rescued by forest department personnel.
The baby elephant was rescued from the barren hills of Hoikong Range in Teknaf on Sunday (January 5) afternoon. The matter has been confirmed by the range officer of Hoikung. Minar Chowdhury.
He said that news came through the locals that a wild mother elephant died while giving birth to a calf in the Harikhola Gohin Hills under the Huaikong range. After receiving information about this incident, the members of the forest department of Huaikung Bit reached the mountain and brought the baby elephant to the office of the forest department. The dead elephant will be buried.
He further informed that the rescued baby elephant will be sent to Dulahazara Safari Park.
