Will this move by the ministry reduce the deficit of public rental housing?

In January 2025, the Ministry for a Solidary Future is expected to publish a second tender for the provision of public rental housing, which will be partially financed from the resources of the recovery and resilience plan.

The total amount of available funds will be at least 2.8 million euros. The subject of the public tender will be the co-financing of projects for the acquisition of public rental apartments through new construction, purchase or purchase and renovation. Legal entities based in Slovenia, namely public housing funds, non-profit housing organizations and local communities, will be able to apply for funding.

The aim of the tender is to encourage investment in reducing the deficit of public rental housing in the entire area of ​​Slovenia. As part of the selected projects, new public rental apartments will be acquired, which will increase the applicant’s fund of public rental apartments, the ministry emphasized.

Among the application conditions, it is stated, among other things, that the use permit must be obtained no later than December 31, 2025, and the project must provide at least four apartments.

The total amount of public tender funds available for the years 2025 and 2026 will amount to at least 2.8 million euros, and according to forecasts, the ministry will co-finance an individual project in the amount of up to 50 percent of the total eligible costs, but no more than 700,000 euros per project. Funds will be disbursed no later than June 30, 2026.

The first tender for the provision of public rental apartments was published in April 2022 by the then Ministry of the Environment and Space.
