Will women really be mobilized in Ukraine?

Minutes are actively distributed on the Internet a videowhich claims that Ukraine has ostensibly passed a new law requiring all women between the ages of 18 and 60 to register for the military.

The title of the post reads: “Will women be mobilized?”, and the host of the program says: From now on, Ukrainian women must perform military service with equal rights to men.

A similar lie already was distributed Russian propagandists – it was claimed that subpoenas were sent even to pregnant women.

Simulated a news show

In the video of ICTV’s show “Neparastosios nyvisenos”, the presenter Viktorija Senyk announces the entry into force of a new law, according to which women between the ages of 18 and 60 must register in the army.

Correspondent Julija Chižniak also appears in the video, trying on a military uniform.

However, this video does not reflect the real situation – the laws of Ukraine currently do not provide for the mandatory mobilization of women.

Taken out of context

The video is clipped from a show in which the presenter claims that Ukrainian women have allegedly become equal performers of military service with men, and expresses doubts about the state’s readiness to implement such decisions in practice.

This creates the false impression that changes have been made to Ukrainian legislation that will soon mobilize all women.

It is also worth noting that the broadcast of the “Extraordinary News” TV shows was discontinued as early as 2022. in the summer, so he just couldn’t report the recent news.

Caused panic before

The press representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova also spread rumors about the alleged general mobilization of Ukrainian women.

She pretended to be interested in whether what she had read in the news reports was true: that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was starting a mobilization of Ukrainian citizens.

“Glory-Ukraine invites its sons and daughters. Sofas, telephones and other patriots. I’m sure that after the first call, they will run to their diplomats to sign, nudging each other with their elbows, as if it were a free ration of Bavarian sausages,” the ministry spokeswoman scoffed.

of Ukraine Center for Combating Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine denied messages about conscription of women into the army.

Deputy Minister of Defense Anna Maliar for her part named called them “Russian liars” and assured that the mobilization of women was not necessary for the time being. According to her, since the beginning of the war, no woman has been forcibly sent to the front.

The manipulation of the alleged general call arose from last year’s order no. 313, which states more than a hundred professionsrelated to the war in one way or another, representatives – from doctors and pharmacists to telecommunications and state security experts – to register in the military register.

After the start of a large-scale invasion and after the introduction of martial lawthe list has shortened somewhat.

However was announcedthat representatives of certain professions will have to come to territorial recruitment centers, pass a medical examination, etc. But this is not true for all women.

Currently, the list of specialties whose representatives are required to register consists of only 14 professions.

Ukrainian women registered in the military and called up to the army will be subject to the same restrictions as men, including a ban on leaving the country.

Volodymyr Smilka, lawyer of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, when commenting on this situation, he explained to journaliststhat this is how the country aims to maintain equal opportunities for men and women.

“As we are approaching NATO standards, we are moving towards them not only in terms of weapons, but also in terms of military registration. This registration is the same for both men and women. They collect the necessary documents and contact their company manager, then go to the territorial assembly center,” he said.
