Responding to users’ concerns, the platform clarified what the situation really is.
Several screenshots of YouTube’s “new” home screen started circulating on social media this week. On the redesigned interface, the upload date and the number of views were not displayed for the videos, which according to some gave the site a cleaner look, while others were downright frustrated.
For the phenomenon vidIQ is a Dexerto Most people became aware of his X post, but it was not revealed how many users actually encountered the modified interface. The revised start screen caused quite a stir, so YouTube soon also spoke about the phenomenon.
A Dexerto in response to his post, the platform confirmed that it is not testing any feature that hides upload date and view count. According to YouTube, such and similar layouts can only be displayed with the use of certain browser extensions.
It is not yet clear exactly which extensions could lead to the phenomenon, as the original source of the screenshots has not been made public. In any case, YouTube’s answer is clear: it currently has no plans to hide video views and upload dates on the home screen.
