More and more users are trusting Microsoft’s new operating system.
Last month, it was still possible to see, based on Steam’s statistics, that players are still unwilling to switch from Windows 10, despite Microsoft’s attempts to use all tricks and incentives, it failed to move users in the direction of switching to the newer version 11 . It took almost three years to change: now Windows 11 is the most popular operating system among Steam users.
A Steam August hardware survey data According to Microsoft, 49 percent of users are now using Windows 11, which is an increase of more than 3 percent compared to the July statistics. The popularity of Windows 10 fell by 3 percent to 47 percent, while the number of macOS and Linux users remained roughly unchanged.
The boom in Windows 11 can be seen not only among Steam users. THE StatCounter according to its data, in July 2023 the market share of the operating system was around 23 percent, which increased to nearly 32 percent by August 2024.
Although Microsoft has recently made several changes to try to make the new system more attractive, by making it impossible to bypass the hardware check, it has made it clear: it wants Windows 11 to be installed only on supported machines.
