Windows 11 2024: The update with the new Copilot+ AI features is available

The update of Windows 11 2024 (aka 24H2) is one of its most confusing updates Microsoftas it contains AI capabilities for the new Copilot+ computers which will not be available on other devices though. Vague communication from Microsoft initially made it difficult to know which users would receive the update and when. Now, the company has announced that the rollout of Windows 11 2024 is starting, so let’s see how this process will work.

What is Windows 11 2024 Update?

The update will essentially be a complete overhaul of the operating system (OS) with new “foundations” that will pave the way for AI capabilities Copilot+ which will be released later. It will be available for all computers with Windows 11 and not only for owners of Copilot+ PCs. Initially it will not include Copilot+ AI capabilities.

Improvements for all users include updated taskbar, new 80Gbps USB speeds, RUST support and default BitLocker encryption. Users of the latest AMD 9000 processors will see gaming performance improvements of 3-13%. There will also be upgraded battery saving, Bluetooth LE audio support, HDR backgrounds and Wi-Fi 7.

Am I eligible for the Windows 11 2024 update and when will I receive it?

If you have Windows 11, you are eligible for the update as the system requirements have not changed. Initially, it will be available on devices running 22H2 and 23H2 builds. To get the update immediately, go to Settings > Windows Update and enable “Get the latest updates as soon as possible”.

Am I eligible for Copilot+ features and when will I receive them?

No one will get Copilot+ features from scratch. The first to receive them will be Windows Insiders with Copilot+ PCs, starting in October.
