Windows 11 Task Manager will show the SSD type

Windows 11 Task Manager will soon display the type of internal SSD that a given PC has installed. And some more components in some small, but always welcome, improvements.

I’m not very passionate about Windows 11, but I have to admit that Microsoft has done an excellent job with some of its components. In this case, we’re talking about one of the most Most important, useful and long-lived internal tools of Windows. Known by its English name Task Manageris intended for users (intermediate-advanced or professional) to solve problems that arise when using the operating system and to thoroughly control the operation of their computer. In this guide you can see all its capabilities, which are many.

Now, the type of SSD

Microsoft improved the information about storage drives present in computers with Windows 10. And it refined it in Windows 11, as it did in all its sections. Currently, the manager reports whether they are hard drives or solid state drives with labels such as HDD or SSD.

In the latest Windows 11 beta (build 22635.4225), Task Manager shows if the solid state drive is NVMe, SATA or otherA small but neat improvement that may not be relevant to most users, but will be of interest to others looking for information on the type of SSD their PC has installed.

The new feature will be incorporated into the next stable versions of the operating system (perhaps the final version of Windows 11 24H2), but if you want to try it out you can now enable it with the well-known ViVeTool as follows:

  • Download and unzip the files ViVeTool in a folder of your choice, but easy to remember and access. For example C:\Vive.
  • Launch Command Prompt as administrator.
  • Navigate to the folder containing the ViVeTool files (cd command). For the example C:\Vive.
  • Type vivetool /enable /id:51978387 and press enter.

Restart your computer, launch the task manager and you will see the type of SSD and also information about connected external drives and which ports, such as USB. As I said: slight improvements, but convenient.
