Winter sports federations and LOK draw attention to the planned sports budget in 2025

After the meeting of the Saeima’s Sports Subcommittee held this week, where the sports budget for 2025 was presented, six winter sports federations – the Latvian Luge Sports Federation, the Latvian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, the Latvian Hockey Federation, the Latvian Skating Association, the Latvian Skiing Federation and the Latvian Biathlon Federation together with the LOK calls for a review of the national sports budget for 2025 as a whole, as well as the budget funds planned for 2025 in order to prepare athletes, teams and the delegation for the Winter Olympic Games.

The Latvian national ice hockey team has already secured participation in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, while in all other winter sports the qualification for the Olympic Games begins this season. Ensuring timely and stable funding is essential for the athletes not only to qualify successfully, but also for Latvia to be represented by the largest possible delegation, the goal of which is to represent the country of Latvia, as well as fight for awards, promote feelings of patriotism in society and motivate youth and adults to devote themselves to daily sports activities. Clarity, stability and sufficient funding in the preparation process would allow the athletes to fully focus on fulfilling the qualification regulations and preparing for the starts.

Our athletes bring Latvia’s name to the world with their achievements and unite society with their victories and results. The Winter Olympics is a major event that inspires and motivates, and right now it is critical to provide athletes with the necessary resources to fully prepare and qualify for these important starts.
