With AI in the background, Apple announces iPhone 16, new Apple Watch and AirPods – Technologies

For Apple, it is “time to shine” and the way forward is through artificial intelligence, which will be increasingly integrated with the brand’s new devices, which are being announced this Monday at the annual event.

In addition to a new iPhone, the 16 model, there are also new Apple Watch models – in the year that marks the tenth anniversary of the “wearable”, and new AirPods.

In a video presentation in Cupertino, California – as usual – Tim Cook, CEO of the brand, took to the stage with words that impose responsibility: this is “without a doubt, the biggest event of the year”.

AppleWatch 10: thinner, with the biggest screen and the best battery ever

The presentation went from smallest to largest and started with the new AppleWatch model, the Series 10, which has the thinnest design ever (10% smaller than the previous model) and the largest display on any watch from the brand, with 30% more space, compared to the Series 9.

According to Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, the screen will be 40% brighter to improve visibility and will be able to update every second.

It is also the first model with an aluminum finish, which makes it 10% lighter than the previous model. Other color options include rose gold and silver aluminum. There is also a 20% lighter option with a titanium finish. Water resistance remains up to 50 meters.

There are also improvements to the battery. It is now possible to charge the watch up to 80% in half an hour, and the battery now lasts up to 18 hours. The built-in microphone also has a mesh that suppresses external sounds to make calls clearer.

There is also a new feature regarding the detection of sleep apnea, a condition that – according to the brand – affects more than a billion people worldwide. The new Series 10 will be able to measure breathing disturbances using an accelerometer and analyze them every month.

Prices start at $399 and the watch will be available on September 20.

As for the AppleWatch Ultra, there’s a new version, which the company says has “the most reliable GPS in a sports watch,” and is now also available in black. Prices start at $799 and it will also be available on September 20.

AirPods 4 also break records: they have “the best sound ever”

It’s a record-breaking night for Apple. Not only are the new AirPods some of the most “comfortable ever,” they also have the “best sound ever.” The new H2 chip is expected to provide these improvements, along with special custom audio that should help reduce ambient noise.

Unsurprisingly, the charging case is also the “smallest ever” and is USB-C compatible. Prices start at $129, and the noise-canceling model starts at $179.

The AirPods Max have also been updated. There are now three new colors and charging is now via USB-C. Prices start at $549 and will be available in mid-September.

Built to support AI. Meet the iPhone 16

The new A18 chip in the iPhone 16 has 60% faster processing power than the iPhone 12 and its speed rivals that of high-end desktop computers, Apple says. The device is made of aluminum, which promises 50% greater resistance than the previous model, has two sizes and a 48-megapixel camera, 4x the resolution of the iPhone 14.

This is precisely the “chip” that was designed to support language models, through artificial intelligence that will be integrated between language, image, action and personal context, explained the vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi.

In the words of the person in charge, this also marks a new era for the personal assistant Siri, which will now be available via text, will be able to answer questions and extract specific details from conversations, for example via email or message.

Many of these features had already been announced at the brand’s “developers conference” in July. The first set of “features” will be available in the next update in October for the new iPhone 16 and the iPhone 15, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

Pricing starts at $799 for the iPhone 16 and $889 for the Plus version.
