With an eye on local elections, Livre focuses on communities: “There are those who are very interested in fostering disunity to reduce electoral value”

Lack one year until the local elections and at Livre the awareness is that this time will be “very important to consolidate the vision that exists for cities and communities and to materialize it into a political program”. The stakes are high: “they are (elections) very important, because there is a possibility of rescuing our territory for a more progressive policy”says Isabel Mendes Lopes.

But there are obstacles in sight. “In an increasingly individualistic society, it’s every man for himself and the power of the community (as Livre advocates) is very frightening”, says the parliamentary leader. And she leaves a warning: “There are those who are very interested in fomenting disunity in order to extract value, whether electoral or real estate. When we allow hate speech to enter our daily lives, we are undermining our close and neighborly relationships. We are undermining the cohesion that should guide us.”
