The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that on Friday, July 19, he will have a long bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in private and that he will also discuss Serbia’s European path, political relations, in relation to Kosovo and Metohija, the situation in the region and the development of the economy. , as well as that a memorandum of understanding regarding mineral resources will be signed with the EU. It will be, he said in London, where he is attending the Summit of the European political community and on the Growth Agenda and the reform plan and joining the single European market.
Value chain
– And through the Growth Agenda and planning to join the single European market – said the president.
He added that a memorandum of understanding regarding mineral raw materials, related to the general framework, is being signed between the Ministry of Mining and the EU, that is, with the Vice President of the EC for Energy, Maroš Ševčović.
– It is important for Serbia that all these institutions and the representatives of our government sign a common desire for an overall value chain that should be formed in Serbia. From lithium, lithium batteries, attracting additional investors, to electric cars where we expect their help for production to come to Serbia, which would mean a huge leap, a quantum leap forward for Serbia. Much more money, much more wealth for our citizens and I believe that we will succeed now – said Vučić to journalists in London, where he is attending the Summit of the European Political Community in which 50 statesmen are participating.
A normal life
This, he says, does not mean, as is rumored, that he is signing up for “mining” lithium.
– Mining is not signed now, what should have been signed, you signed long ago in 2001 and 2004 and 2006 and in February 2012 before you lost power. Now we are talking about how to make Serbia an exceptional place to live much faster, to achieve an advantage over all others and take care of that, that is what is important – the president pointed out.
He also pointed out that the people do not elect politicians to make decisions that everyone likes, but to make decisions in the long-term interest of the people.
– That’s why I want it, because I know what it is and what it could bring us, provided that we ensure full protection of the environment, that people can breathe normally, drink normal water and live normally on their hearths. That is the essence and we will fight for it. It is a long process and there is still a long time to go, four more years until we do it – said Vučić.
He stated that we have to fight for the largest percentage of raw materials to remain in our country. He also indicated to the partners from the West that a small part of the raw material can go to them, but that they have to import the batteries from Serbia.
Keeping the peace
Before the beginning of the summit, the President said that it is crucial to preserve peace, that Serbia wants peace and economic progress and that it will act accordingly. Yes, as he said, we see what it is of crucial importance for us to do in the national interest, above all to preserve peace and to see how to further improve the economy.
“Accordingly, I will talk to them,” Vučić told reporters.
A series of meetings
During the summit, Vučić met with Prime Ministers of Belgium Alexander de Cro, Spain Pedro Sanchez, United Kingdom Kira Starmer, Hungary Viktor Orbán, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Georgia Irakli Kobahidze, North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski and Slovenia Robert Golob. He had meetings with the presidents of Lithuania Gitanas Naused, Switzerland Vaiola Amherd and Bulgaria Rumen Radev, and he also spoke with the EU’s high representative for foreign policy and security, Josep Borella, and the candidate for that position, Kaja Kalas.
