Witness in The Hague: There were also Albanians in the Serbian services, I am ashamed of that

Witness Haljilj Čadraku spoke today before the Court in The Hague about his role in the intelligence-counterintelligence sector in the operational area of ​​Pastrik.

He made a distinction between the intelligence and counterintelligence sectors, and stated that the counterintelligence sector collected information on elements harmful to the KLA.

The witness said that many Albanians were also part of the Serbian structures, for which, as he said, he was “ashamed”. He stated that the Serbian services were sophisticated and that they discovered information from the KLA in different ways.

– In those places where I lived, Orahovac, Prizren and other cities, the state security, all members of the Udba were Albanians, for which I am ashamed. We knew the names of those people even before 1998 and 1999. I was the head of both sectors, intelligence and counterintelligence – he told Čadrak.

As he stated, his task was to “preserve and protect all military formations and territory from the enemy and those who want to cause harm”.

– In the beginning, when I took on this task, nothing from this sector was formed within the Pastrik Operational Zone where I was posted, within those brigades that operated inside the country, and there were approximately five of them. Most of the time I was trying to organize, fill, name the sectors. We didn’t have enough time to make it happen, because a lot of things were happening, a lot of operations, battles, but my task at that time was roughly the consolidation of the sector from the Pastrik operational zone, then “below”, to the brigade, battalion and company – he said.

The witness said that his role was to collect information, analyze and report to the commander, which, according to him, was commander Drini, and later Tahir Sinani.

Among other things, the witness said that civilians often reported that someone was a collaborator. As a result, he stated, an analysis of the biography, history and the person in question was done, and then it was decided whether to inform the guards or not.

The witness confirmed that there were checkpoints in the Pastrik Operational Zone, which were set up in places where there was a danger of entry by unauthorized persons for the purpose of legitimizing and protecting the territory.
