Golf Digest, an American golf media outlet, reported on the 8th (local time) that “German sports brand Puma filed a lawsuit over Woods’ ‘Sunday Red’ logo.” Sunday Red is a golf clothing brand that Woods launched with TaylorMade last year after ending his sponsorship contract with Nike.

Puma argued that “Woods’ Sunday Red is too similar to the company logo that has been in use since 1969,” and that “the golf brand, owned by TaylorMade, should not use the proposed trademark.” He continued, saying, “The logos are similar, and the product and service areas also overlap,” raising concerns about the possibility of confusion among consumers.

This isn’t the first time Sunday Red has been embroiled in a trademark dispute. In September of last year, Tiger Lare, a portable cooling system manufacturer, filed a lawsuit with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to block the registration of Sunday Red’s trademark rights, claiming that “Sunday Red infringed on its trademark rights.” This case is currently in court.
