World record: A Toyota Prius recorded a consumption of only 2.5L/100 km. The car has been driven over 5,000 km

The new generation Toyota Prius continues to impress not only with its design, but also with its efficiency. Recently, one model broke the record for the lowest fuel consumption.

A new generation Toyota Prius LE has broken the world record for the lowest fuel consumption. The car was driven from the US west coast to the east coast, averaging a remarkable 2.5 L/100 km. Wayne Gerdes was awarded the title of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS for the lowest fuel consumption achieved in the US territory, in a car driven from west to east.

Earlier this summer, Gerdes drove from Los Angeles City Hall to New York City Hall in a Prius LE. The journey stretched along 5,168 kilometers, crossing areas such as the Mohave Desert, but also the Rocky Mountains, reaching altitudes of about 2,100 meters.

The Toyota Prius breaks another record and shows us how efficient the Japanese hybrid technology is

Toyota claims an average of 57 MPG, which translates into an average consumption of 4.13 l/100 km. But Gerdes proved that it is possible to do much better than that and revealed the secrets of more efficient driving.

For example, he suggests starting gently from a standstill and keeping even pressure on the gas pedal. It is also important to release the throttle early when we are close to a stop and make the most of the car’s inertia.

“A record attempt like this takes a lot of planning,” Gerdes said. “You can’t just go blind. You have to have a plan. But you have to be able to adapt on the fly. So if things change, you have to change your plan. Redirect. Find out what you will be able to do to achieve this goal,” said Gerdes.
