The first IRONMAN race was held in Belgrade today, which brought together 1,000 competitors from 60 countries around the world.
mts IRONMAN 70.3 Belgrade race, a spectacle never seen in the history of Serbia, put the Serbian capital on the international triathlon map.
“Today, Belgrade was the center of world triathlon. Despite extremely difficult weather conditions, there was no shortage of enthusiasm and good energy, and Serbia got its first IRONMAN winners. Organizationally a very demanding race, I would like to thank the City of Belgrade, all partners and sponsors for their support and help so that everything goes smoothly today. Our priority is the safety of the competitors and we have achieved that. Considering the weather, they really all deserved the IRONMAN title,” said Darko Savić, President of the Board of Directors of mts IRONMAN 70.3 Belgrade race.
In the men’s competition, the first to reach the finish line, winning the slot for the World Championship in Marbella, was Gergo Nemet from Hungary with a score of 4:03:06. Shortly after him, the Italian Gabriel Grimaldi crossed the finish line and won silver and the title of vice-champion, achieving a result of 4:12:33 minutes. The bronze medal went to Polish representative Pavel Mitrus, who recorded a time of 4:13:54 minutes. Among the women, Malgorzata Granicka from Poland stood out, winning first place with a score of 4:40:45. Slovakian Jana Kubkova was second (5:03:14), while the bronze went to Marija Šinkevič (5:05:30).
mts IRONMAN 70.3 Belgrade race also represented the Serbian triathlon championship, and first place Vladimir Danko (4:2:03) and silver Nemanja Ristović (4:32:48) climbed to the winning team, while the bronze medal was won by Bojan Đurić, director of mts IRONMAN 70.3 Belgrade (4:36:48).
Triathletes attracted special attention. The winning spirit was not lacking in Nina Turković, who won the gold medal with a time of 5:27:52 minutes. The silver podium went to Mirjana Ranković with a time of 5:30:56 minutes, while the bronze went to Natalija Simonova with a result of 5:36:48 minutes.
The organizers are especially proud that the race took place in the best order, without injuries and incidents on the track, with great satisfaction of the competitors, considering the difficult weather conditions and that the safety of participants and visitors is a priority and the greatest attention is paid to that aspect.
Triathlon, the Olympic and the fastest growing sport in the world, got a new race this September in Belgrade, from the calendar of the prestigious international competition IRONMAN. The agreement on the organization of the first Serbian IRONMAN was signed by Darko Savić, president of the 11TRI Sports Association and Henrik Brovel, regional director of IRONMAN Europe.
