After four years of adapting to different weather conditions that inevitably affected the character of the race, the Acropolis Rally in 2025 returns to the period that has always characterized it, in the middle of summer.
A few minutes ago, the FIA World Council approved the WRC schedule for 2025, with the Acropolis Rally forming the 7th round, which will be held on June 26-29, with what that may mean for the temperatures that will called upon to face the crews.
This, however, has always been one of the main elements of the race’s identity, established as an unprecedented mix of hard roads and heat. The decision to hold the race in the summer came at the request of the organizers, with the aim of preserving as much of its tradition as possible in the modern era of Rally.
The Deputy Minister of Sports, Yannis Vroutsis, regarding the finalization of the date for 2025, stated:
The admittedly perfect events of the past years formed the basis, so that from a position of strength now and having won the trust of the World Federation, we can succeed in holding the race on its traditional date, having already secured its presence on the calendar of the World Rally Championship at least until 2027!
Our goal for the future is for the EKO Rally Acropolis to give even greater thrills to the fans of motor sports, combining the prospects of development with its immense tradition and with the communication of good practices for road safety.
A big well done to all who work for our national struggle.
The 2025 championship will be the longest since 2008, with 14 matches. Spain, Paraguay and Saudi Arabia have been added to the calendar, with the competition set covering all surfaces – ice, snow, dirt, tarmac and desert.
The start – traditionally – will be from Monte Carlo at the end of January, while along the way the WRC will visit Africa, Asia, Europe again and South America, before closing in Saudi Arabia. Earlier, a novelty for the institution will be the race in the Canary Islands, marking the return of the WRC to Spain after a two-year hiatus.
Estonia returns to the calendar after a year off, while from northern Europe the WRC will travel to the other side of the globe for its debut in Paraguay at the end of August. The official first Rally of Saudi Arabia is eagerly awaited where each of the three days will “run” on a separate terrain.
