The Chinese MG has already proven that electric cars do not always have to be hatchbacks, sedans, crossovers or SUVs with the Cyberster. If you are in the market for a practical EV, you can go to various electric commercial vehicles in the Netherlands, but increasingly also passenger car versions. Think of the electric Peugeot e-Rifter, the Citroën ë-Berlingo and the Toyota Pro Ace City Electric. The Chinese Wuling now also has such a model: the Sunshine EV. Just like Baojun, Wuling is a car brand of SGMW, a partnership between SAIC, General Motors and the previously Wuling Group called Guangxi Auto. You probably know Wuling from the Hongguang Mini EV, which is extremely popular in China, but perhaps also from the Air EV and Nano EV, among others. It also sells a range of commercial vehicles, several of which have Rongguang or Sunshine in the name. The Sunshine label is now expanded to include the Sunshine EV. Its name already gives it away: it is completely electric. The Wuling Sunshine EV is 3.67 meters short, making it 15 centimeters shorter than a Hyundai Inster. Even a Dacia Spring is 5 centimeters longer. Let that sink in for a moment. The Sunshine EV has a wheelbase of 2.6 meters. The space between and beyond is, according to its creators, filled with the possibility of ‘twenty extensions’. It appears to be about modular storage options. Wuling speaks of storage racks and extra storage compartments, folding tables and telephone holders, among other things. Handy. All seats minus the driver’s can be laid completely flat. The regular luggage compartment houses 527 liters, with the furniture folded down you can stow 1,117 liters of stuff in the electric sunbeam. The Sunshine EV has a sliding door on both the left and right and a large tailgate. The powertrain is, not surprisingly, quite modest. The Wuling Sunshine EV produces 41 hp and has a battery pack of almost 18 kWh.
