X can return to Brazil if it pays a fine of 2 million dollars

If X pays a fine of about 2 million dollars to the Brazilian government, the social medium will be allowed online again in the country. This is reported, among other things CNBC based on a decision by a Brazilian judge.

The Brazilian authorities and X came to blows this year because, according to the authorities, X had done too little to spread fake news. The social medium was therefore completely blocked at the end of August. Brazilians who circumvented the blockade risked a fine. Internet providers had to block the social medium.

Judge Alexandre de Moraes, involved in the trial, was then criticized by X boss Elon Musk, who called him a lapdog and a dictator. Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva responded in turn that rich people must also adhere to the rules. Musk is the richest person on earth.

X had no representative in Brazil

In addition to the fact that X would have done too little against fake news, the company also had no representative in Brazil (which it should). The Brazilian authorities also had to change that. Ultimately, X changed tack and removed the accounts that allegedly spread fake news. A representative was also appointed.

But now judge De Moraes wants X to first pay previously imposed fines before the social medium is allowed online again in Brazil. This fine partly consists of an amount that the company must pay because it was accessible in Brazil for two days during the ban.
