Xi Jinping: To de-escalate the situation in Ukraine as soon as possible

Chinese President Xi Jinping said today that it is important to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine as soon as possible and offer a way to resolve the crisis.

– We must help de-escalate the crisis situation in Ukraine as soon as possible and pave the way for a political solution – said Xi in his address at the plenary session of the BRICS summit in Kazan.

The President of China thanked his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for the successful holding of the BRICS Summit, reports RIA Novosti.

He called on BRICS members to play a leading role in reforming the global economic governance system.

– We should be a key force for overall development, to actively participate and lead the reform of the global economic management system, as well as to help make development the focus of the international economic and trade agenda – said the Chinese president.

He stated that the BRICS countries should be a stabilizing force for maintaining peace, managing global security and solving issues of vital importance.

The BRICS summit in Kazan will be held from October 22 to 24.

The plenary session of the Summit in the expanded BRICS plus format is currently underway in Kazan, chaired by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, with the participation of representatives of almost 40 countries.
