Xiaomi is growing and approaching Apple

Sales figures for the second quarter of the year show that Xiaomi is taking an increasingly large part of the market.

These are new figures published by IDC which shows the shipments of smart mobiles in the second quarter of 2024. The market as a whole saw a growth of 6.5 percent compared to the same quarter in 2023 with just over 285 million units shipped during the quarter.

According to the figures, Samsung is still at the top with just under 54 million units delivered and gets 18.9 percent of the total market. That share is certainly lower than the 20 percent it had at the same time last year, but Samsung delivered around half a million more units.

Apple is in second place with 45.2 million units shipped (up from 44.5 million) for 15.8 percent of the global market.

In third place is Xiaomi, which is making strong progress and is getting closer and closer to Apple. The company delivered 42.3 million units in the second quarter of 2024, which is an increase of 27.4 percent compared to the same period last year. That gives Xiaomi 14.8 percent compared to the 12.4 percent it had in the second quarter of 2023.

That gives Samsung a market share of 18.9 percent, Apple 15.8 percent and Xiaomi 14.8 percent. However, Apple is expected to take back market share this fall when it launches the new iPhone 16 models
