Xiaomi Mix Fold 4: With thinner and lighter body, SD 8 Gen 3 and 5x periscope camera

Foldables in China are evolving very quickly, slimming down in size and offering more powerful chipsets, cameras and larger batteries.

Xiaomi’s new Mix Fold 4 is incredibly thin and light and comes in direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 and Honor Magic V3, while offering a larger main screen and four rear cameras including a 5x periscope lens.

Weighing just 226 grams, the Mix Fold 4 weighs as much as Honor’s Magic V3 and is almost as thin – 4.59mm unfolded and 9.47mm folded. Xiaomi has followed a curved frame design with the sides tapering to the aluminum frame.

The internal structure of the Mix Fold 4 features high-strength T800H carbon fiber that is extremely lightweight while offering a 300% improvement in impact resistance compared to the Mix Fold 3.

This is also the first Xiaomi foldable with an IPX8 rating, making it waterproof up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

There is a 6.56-inch LTPO OLED cover display with FHD+ resolution, 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 21:9 aspect ratio.

The 7.98-inch panel is made of Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) and also features FHD+ resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz. Xiaomi claims both displays can deliver a maximum brightness of up to 3,000 nits and each has a 20MP front-facing camera.

Like its recent foldable competitors, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Xiaomi also brings a Leica quad camera system with Summilux lenses.

The main shooter has a 23mm equivalent 50MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture and OIS. You also get a 50MP 2x (47mm) portrait sensor and a 10MP periscope with 5x optical zoom and a 115mm equivalent lens. The fourth shooter on the back is a 15mm ultrawide lens equivalent to 12MP.

The Mix Fold 4 runs Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 14 and is powered by a 5,100mAh Xiaomi Surge battery with 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is available in black, white and blue colors. Pricing starts at CNY 8,999 ($1,237) for the 12/256GB trim and goes up to CNY 9,999 ($1,375) for the 16/512GB version and CNY 10,999 ($1,513) for the top-of-the-line version with Mix Fold 16GB and 3AM 1TB storage.
