The Xiaomi brand is known among customers for its innovative solutions and interesting pricing policy. The hot new Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20+ also benefits from this tradition, which came to us for testing immediately after its launch. The novelty is exceptional from several points of view. It is a robotic vacuum cleaner with mopping. Instead of a trailed mopping pad, which is used by most robotic vacuum cleaners, the X20+ model uses a pair of pressure rotating mopping discs that can actually wash the floor, not just spread dust. The amount of water used can be selected in three steps. The package includes a special docking station that automatically empties the vacuum cleaner’s collection basket in less than 10 seconds into a large-capacity bag with a volume of 4 l. It can hold dirt for up to 75 days (depending on the size of the apartment and the frequency of cleaning). After each mopping, the station automatically cleans and dries the mopping attachments so that they are ready for the next use as soon as possible. This process is one of the most important functions, it prevents the spread of odors and mold formation, thus ensuring hygienic and efficient cleaning.
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20+ is equipped with a built-in laser and LDS navigation system that creates an accurate map of your home. This system allows him to plan the optimal cleaning route, thus ensuring maximum efficiency. In the accompanying application, you can easily set the frequency of cleaning and choose specific parts of the home that you want to clean. During the initial installation, just connect the robot to the home network via the Xiaomi Home mobile application and then start creating the map. The robot will go through all the rooms and places it can get to and map them. The result is a map of the entire space, which the application tries to divide into individual rooms. How exactly it succeeds depends on the fragmentation and arrangement of the space. To make it easier, go through all the rooms before mapping and try to remove any obstacles that may not be there. Of course, the map can be edited and the layout of the rooms can be changed. When cleaning, you can easily determine whether the entire apartment will be cleaned, or only individual rooms. For each room, you can set whether it will only be vacuumed, only washed or both vacuumed and washed, while you can set the suction power and the amount of water for each room. Thanks to a suction power of up to 6000 Pa, the X20+ can easily vacuum larger dirt, hair and dust. Its navigation system ensures that the vacuum cleaner effectively avoids obstacles even in low light. Dirt is collected in a container with a capacity of 350 ml, which ensures enough space for longer cleaning.
According to the manufacturer, the robot can recognize carpets and automatically raises the mop attachment to prevent the carpets from getting wet. However, this function only works with carpets within the room where it can detect a raised edge. However, if the robot passes, for example, into another room with a carpet over a low threshold, it cannot recognize the surface of the carpet. It’s a bit of a shame, but it’s not a tragedy. If you have carpets in some rooms and not in others, cleaning can be planned selectively through the application, with the fact that you can set for each room separately whether it should only be vacuumed, washed or both. The vacuum cleaner will take care of the rest. Built-in sensors detect stairs or other obstacles, thus preventing the vacuum cleaner from falling. Of course, the navigation system rescans the rooms every time it cleans, so if you had a closet or other items in the room that you removed, you don’t have to worry about it not cleaning that place.
A very important function of any robotic vacuum cleaner is the possibility of scheduling cleaning. When you’re at home, you don’t need a vacuum cleaner running under your feet and disturbing you. Of course, during cleaning and also during the preparation or subsequent cleaning of the mops, the base and the vacuum cleaner can be heard. That has to be reckoned with. Therefore, using the Xiaomi/Mi Home app, schedule cleaning when you are not at home and you will return to a freshly cleaned environment. The application allows you to select specific places for cleaning and create schedules with the frequency of cleaning for individual rooms. You also have voice control via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, which adds another level of comfort to your everyday life.
The waste bag in the base will last more than 2.5 months (for a 2-room apartment), of course, it will depend on the area and frequency of cleaning. If you also use daily mopping, the water will need to be topped up once every 4-7 days depending on the set intensity and the area of the rooms. In addition, waste water is always poured out.
Xiaomi Robot Vacuum X20+ is not the only device on the market with such functions. You will find several flagship models from other manufacturers that offer these features. However, the main charm of the new product from Xiaomi is the price, which no comparable competitor even comes close to.
