XMG presented its first gaming laptop based on the Dragon Range platform, equipped with the flagship AMD Ryzen 7945HX processor and RTX 40 series graphics cards.
A MUX switch is also present to allow the connection to be switched between the dGPU and the iGPU, for high performance mode or power saving mode. According to XMG tests, the APEX 17 MAX can score 29,682 points in the Cinebench R23 Multi-core test, while the XMG NEO 17, which is equipped with a Core i9 14900HX processor, scores 30,164 points. However, XMG claims that the APEX 17 MAX can deliver up to 72% more efficiency by running at 80W compared to 140W on the NEO 17. This results in a remarkable 371 points per hour (ppw) compared to the NEO 17’s 215 ppw.
In the single-core Cinebench R23 test, the APEX 17 MAX can provide a 2% advantage over the NEO 17, but falls behind by 11% as the i9 14900HX offers better single-core performance. The Ryzen 7945HX on the APEX 17 MAX can compete evenly in various other benchmark tests, while remaining more efficient in power consumption.
The XMG APEX 17 MAX comes with two M.2 SSDs and support for up to 96GB of RAM. The memory can work at a speed of up to 5200MHz with a 64GB RAM configuration and at 4800MHz with a 96GB RAM kit. It also brings the latest connectivity features such as WiFi 6E, Bluetooth, USB-C 3.2 Gen2 ports, HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4 and Gigabit LAN.
The price of the XMG APEX 17 MAX starts at €1,599 including VAT of 19%. The price will increase with the addition of the RTX 4070 laptop GPU and the increase in RAM and storage capacity. The XMG APEX 17 MAX can be configured on Bestware, where users can start the configuration with RTX 4060, 16GB DDR5-5200 RAM and 500GB SSD.
