XMG launch laptop APEX 17 MAX, your AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX and RTX 4060/4070 graphics

XMG presented its first gaming laptop based on the Dragon Range platform, equipped with the flagship AMD Ryzen 7945HX processor and RTX 40 series graphics cards.

The XMG APEX 17 MAX laptop provides 100% DCI-P3 color space on a WQHD screen, with support for RTX 40 graphics cards and AMD Ryzen 7045HX “Dragon Range” processors.

XMG, a brand that produces gaming laptops and desktops, has just introduced its first gaming laptop with the flagship Dragon Range CPU. APEX 17 MAX is a 17-inch gaming laptop based on a Ryzen 9 7945HX processor and a mid-range NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics card. According to XMG, the APEX 17 MAX is the equivalent of the XMG NEO 17, an Intel-based laptop, but offers more efficiency.

XMG already has some APEX 17 models, but they are characterized by Ryzen 7 7840HS or Ryzen 7 7735HS processors, intended for the middle class of the gaming market. The new APEX 17 MAX is strong not only in terms of specifications, but also in terms of battery life.

The APEX 17 MAX will have the option of choosing between RTX 4070 or RTX 4060 graphics cards that will drive the 16:9 screen with a resolution of 2560x1440p. The screen will use an IPS panel with a color coverage of 100% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB for vivid color reproduction. In addition, the screen will have a refresh rate of up to 165Hz and support for AMD FreeSync for a fluid and pleasant gaming experience.

With a brightness of up to 330 nits, users will have a bright and vivid screen for gaming and multimedia, while those who care about battery life can switch to a saving mode with a 60Hz refresh rate. In terms of battery life, the laptop is equipped with a decent 73Wh battery, which is also replaceable. To further extend battery life, users can enable iGPU-only mode, which can be selected from the Control Center. This mode is activated after the NVIDIA dGPU is deactivated and the laptop is restarted.

A MUX switch is also present to allow the connection to be switched between the dGPU and the iGPU, for high performance mode or power saving mode. According to XMG tests, the APEX 17 MAX can score 29,682 points in the Cinebench R23 Multi-core test, while the XMG NEO 17, which is equipped with a Core i9 14900HX processor, scores 30,164 points. However, XMG claims that the APEX 17 MAX can deliver up to 72% more efficiency by running at 80W compared to 140W on the NEO 17. This results in a remarkable 371 points per hour (ppw) compared to the NEO 17’s 215 ppw.

In the single-core Cinebench R23 test, the APEX 17 MAX can provide a 2% advantage over the NEO 17, but falls behind by 11% as the i9 14900HX offers better single-core performance. The Ryzen 7945HX on the APEX 17 MAX can compete evenly in various other benchmark tests, while remaining more efficient in power consumption.
