Yamaha launches new R9 – Moto Berza

Yamaha has launched the new R9 model, which arrives in the 2025 edition and is not a replacement for the YZF-R1. He has been talked about for a long time, and now that he is finally here, it is our turn to see what he brings us.

Its heart is a three-cylinder CP3 unit with a volume of 890 cubic metersthe same as found on the MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT models. The difference is in the engine control unit (ECU), which is different on the R9, and which aims to “deliver exciting supersport power with more character and revs”.

Yamaha did not disclose specific figuresbut we know that the mentioned unit on the MT-09 delivers 117 hp and 92 Nm of maximum torque.

One of the main features is the Deltabox frame, which is the lightest aluminum frame of the Japanese company, weighing only 9.7 kilograms. There are also fully adjustable 43mm KYB SDF inverted forks, as well as a fully adjustable KYB rear shock. Up front are Brembo radial master cylinders, 320mm discs and Brembo Stylema calipers. The ergonomics are significantly sportier than on the YZF-R7.

The R9 boasts a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), with 7 driving modes. These are Rain, Sport, Street, Custom, as well as 4 modes intended for the track. Kwikshifter is part of the standard equipment, and another distinctive feature is the Y-TRAC system, which records and analyzes driving data. Bluetooth connection with the phone is possible, which means that the motorcycle can boast of integrated navigation. The new 5-inch TFT screen is much easier to read.

All in all, the Yamaha R9 is an everyday sports bike that will do well on the occasional track. It is much more affordable than the YZF-R1, but it also brings some of its technology.
