Yandex Weather has introduced a free API for integrating weather data into smart home systems. With its help, users will be able to create automated scenarios that will depend on weather conditions — for example, turning on underfloor heating on cold evenings or bright lighting on rainy days. These functions will soon be available in smart homes with Alice.
The API provides basic weather information for the next 48 hours: temperature, wind, precipitation, cloudiness. This data can be used for various scenarios. For example, you can configure the system so that when the temperature is below eight degrees, the heating is turned on, or when the weather is cloudy, UV lamps for indoor plants are activated.
You can also receive notifications about weather changes or display the forecast on the screen of a smartwatch or other device.
Weather data will soon be used in the Yandex smart home ecosystem, allowing users to create weather-based scenarios — for example, reminders to take an umbrella in rainy weather, which Alice will notify in advance. The API is aimed at experienced users who want to expand the capabilities of their smart home, and is compatible with systems that support external APIs.
A special plugin is available for Home Assistant users to simplify integration. The service is free for personal use.
To start working with the API, you need to register in your personal account Yandex Weather for Smart Home and get an access key. Those who already use the API for business will need to create a new account.
