Da-young Lee (19, Korea National Sport University), who participated in the Paris Olympics with Yeo Se-jeong, said about the possibility of the team advancing to the finals, “If Yeo Se-jeong pushes herself, we might have a chance.”
Regarding the podium training that day, Yeo Seo-jeong said, “Overall, it wasn’t bad,” and “This is my first time competing in the women’s team event at the Olympics in 36 years, and it was nice to be able to finish training at the competition venue.”
Yeo Seo-jeong is the first Korean female gymnast to win an Olympic medal. She won a gold medal in the vault event at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and a bronze medal in the vault event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In particular, Yeo Seo-jeong led the way in women’s gymnastics’ participation in the Olympic team event for the first time in 36 years since the 1988 Seoul Games. She has also served as captain of the women’s national team since last year.
Yeo Seo-jeong is also the daughter of the ‘vault emperor’ Yeo Hong-chul, executive director of the Korea Gymnastics Association (professor at Kyunghee University) who won a silver medal in the men’s vault event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
