President Yoon Seok-yeol said on the 20th (local time), “I hope that Korea and the Czech Republic, as strategic partners, will be reborn as a ‘nuclear alliance’ that looks forward to the next 100 years.”

Prime Minister Petr Piala also said, “The construction of a new nuclear power plant is an opportunity to significantly develop the strategic relationship and economic cooperation between the two countries,” adding, “The outlines of cooperation between the two countries are already being revealed.”

President Yoon said this in a joint press release immediately following his meeting with Prime Minister Piala in Prague, Czech Republic, saying, “With our company’s participation in the Dukovany nuclear power plant project as an opportunity, we will institutionalize comprehensive nuclear cooperation that goes beyond nuclear power plant construction to include joint research and development and human resource development.”

President Yoon said, “The two countries shared the view that the Dukovany new nuclear power plant construction project, in which Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power was selected as the preferred negotiating partner, will be an important opportunity to significantly develop the strategic partnership between the two countries in the future,” and explained, “They agreed to continue close communication so that the Dukovany nuclear power plant project can establish itself as an exemplary case of future-oriented cooperation between the two countries.”

He continued, “The two countries agreed to pursue comprehensive economic cooperation covering industry, energy, and supply chains in the future.”The Trade and Investment Promotion Framework (TIPF) recently concluded between the two countries He said, “We will further expand trade between the two countries, which has been breaking records every year for four consecutive years, and promote mutual investment.”

President Yoon said, “Prime Minister Piala and I agreed to expand mutually beneficial cooperation between our two countries beyond manufacturing-centered economic cooperation to high value-added sectors such as advanced technology, transportation, infrastructure, and future mobility.”In particular, the two countries are developing hydrogen, batteries, advanced robots, and electric vehicles. He emphasized, “We have also decided to strengthen cooperation in the fields of eco-friendly energy and advanced industries.”

And then “On the occasion of my visit to the Czech Republic Research institutes and universities from both countries in various fields including bio, aerospace, chemistry and advanced materials, digital, and nuclear energy.

“We look forward to public research cooperation in the areas of cutting-edge and innovative technology research and development,” Prime Minister Fiala said in a joint press release, citing small modular reactors (SMRs), hydrogen technology, and the aviation industry.

Prime Minister Fiala said, “What makes this deep cooperation possible is that our two countries share many values, including democracy and a just world order.” He added, “Having experienced invasion throughout history, both countries yearn for freedom, and now want to support and assist countries that have lost their freedom.”

Prime Minister Fiala also said, “I received an invitation from President Yoon to visit Korea. I am honored by the invitation.”
