Internet connection via satellite Starlink has been available in the Czech Republic (and almost as long in Slovakia) for about three years. However, hardware can now be ordered outside of “Musk’s e-shop”, Alza has started importing terminals to us. Distribution is handled by Apcom CE.
The necessary hardware required for the operation of this satellite Internet connection, i.e. the Standard Kit containing the Starlink antenna, the Gen 3 router and the necessary cabling, can be purchased at a price of CZK 8,790. Alza does not have exclusivity, so we may soon see it in other e-shops.
If you search, you will discover “Czech” offers on Allegra or Kaufland, so the order goes abroad anyway. For comparison, the terminal can be ordered at the Starlink e-shop for a price of CZK 8,800 plus shipping costs of CZK 570.
What is included in the kit?
Headed by a Gen 3 antenna and router, the set offers Wi-Fi 6 with a speed of 50 to 200 Mb/s for up to 10 users at the same time, a trio of 4×4 MU-MIMO antennas with coverage of up to 297 m² and WPA2 security. The router is operated using an application for mobile phones. According to the manufacturer, setting up should be a simple matter of a few minutes that anyone can handle even without advanced knowledge.
In short, Starlink is a network of low-orbit satellites communicating with ground stations and user terminals (routers). Individual satellites are deployed in such a way as to ensure coverage even in places where other Internet providers do not offer their services. Thanks to Musk’s Starlink, you can connect to the Internet in places far from civilization, at sea or desert or anywhere else where there is a clear view of the sky. In addition to the terminal, you also have to pay a monthly fee, which starts at 1,249 CZK, for the possibility of constant connection anywhere.
