You can even run PlayStation games on the Xbox handheld console –

The stunt won’t even require an emulator, Sony created the conditions themselves, although not on purpose.

A few years ago, no one would have thought that anyone but Nintendo could make money in the handheld market, then Steam Deck proved that not only fans of Mario and Pokémon like to play while lying in bed, while traveling or even while moving into the toilet. However, the latter is not without health risks.

Seeing Valve’s success, several PC hardware manufacturers launched their own alternatives, from ASUS ROG Ally to Lenovo Legion Go to MSI Claw. But in the same way, Sony returned to the world of hand-held consoles with the limited functionality PlayStation Portal, which can be followed by a full-fledged machine that already runs the games natively.

And here is also Microsoft, which for the first time in its history can appear with a portable Xbox console. In principle, we are still years away from the appearance of the machine in question, and the people of Redmond measure the information narrowly, but we can be almost certain that not only will we be able to stream titles from the Game Pass catalog to it from the cloud, but the games will also run natively on it, more precisely for those the PC versions.

Assuming that the portable Xbox is built on PC foundations, it will have access to the offerings of other marketplaces in addition to the Microsoft Store, including Steam, which has PC copies of Sony games. It follows from this that within a few years, the people of Redmond will send a console to the shops, on which God of War, Ghost of Tsushima or even The Last of Us feel at home.

Tom Warren, editor of The Verge, came to this conclusion in response to a comment on X. According to him, the Xbox handheld console will be able to run PlayStation games, since Sony also releases them for the PC.

What’s more, the reverse could also be true if neither Xbox nor Sony commits to a closed ecosystem, but instead builds their future handheld console as if it were a portable PC.
