You can play Cyberpunk 2077 on mobile! The new Snapdragon has insane performance

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite takes mobile gaming to a new level
  • Thanks to it, Cyberpunk 2077 runs at 60 FPS even through the emulator
  • Progress in PC game emulation is significant, but it still has limits

Mobile gaming has come a long way in recent years. While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 were already able to solidly run more demanding PC titles, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite raises the bar even higher. According to available information, its Adreno 830 graphics chip can handle Cyberpunk 2077 emulation at a smooth 60 frames per second.

Although compromises in the form of resolution must be taken into account 720p (however, this is not such a problem in the case of smaller displays) and low details, it is in any case an impressive performance. A short demo shared on the X social network does suggest the use of technologies such as AMD FSR or frame generationyet the Snapdragon 8 Elite outperforms even integrated graphics in the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light benchmark Radeon 780Mwhich is part of the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip. This is often used in handheld devices such as Lenovo Legion Go or ASUS ROG Ally.

What is interesting – these results are achieved by the chip on an early version of the emulator Eggns. Performance could theoretically be even better with optimized software. For comparison – the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 manages the same game at low details at 30 FPS, on emulators such as Mobox, Winlator or Horizon.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite generally excels in PC game emulation, where it offers up to twice the performance of its predecessor. With developer support, native ports of AAA games could run even better on this chipset. Due to the fragmentation of the Android hardware ecosystem, we will probably have to wait for such a future…
