You don’t even have to lift a finger. A robotic vacuum cleaner will also pick up socks from the floor for you – Technologies – Science and technology

At the CES 2025, the company Roborock presented a new version of its robotic vacuum cleaner with a movable arm, with which it can pick up various objects from the ground. For example, even forgotten socks.

Robotic vacuum cleaners have undergone tremendous development over the past ten years. At first they could barely vacuum one room, later they learned to vacuum and wash the whole apartment, and finally the manufacturers connected them to the Internet and improved waste handling. Improvements in this area do not end, however, and companies want to turn vacuum cleaners into fully autonomous devices that household members will no longer hear about and will not even see. At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Roborock presented its latest robotic vacuum cleaner, the Saros Z70, which is slowly making these dreams come true.

The Saros Z70 is the first to bring an innovation in the form of an OmniGrip extendable arm. The five-axis arm can lift objects weighing up to 300 grams from the ground and move them to another location. It can deal with forgotten socks, discarded underwear and even candy wrappers. OmniGrip is equipped with a camera, LED lighting and sensors that identify objects and determine their weight. The arm remains folded at the top of the vacuum cleaner until an obstacle appears in front of the vacuum cleaner. Through the mobile app, users can set the areas where the arm should work and define where to place the found objects. For safety, there is a child lock and an instant stop button.

The Saros Z70 uses the advanced navigation system StarSight Autonomous System 2.0 and VertiBeam technology to recognize obstacles, which improves its orientation in space. In addition, it offers strong suction power and advanced mopping functions. It is compatible with multiple smart home systems, including Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri Shortcuts and Google Home. The vacuum cleaner should appear on the market in June of this year for an unspecified price.
