you get them so much and so often

Samsung is known for its excellent update policy for smartphones and tablets. But will your phone continue to receive many updates? This is how you check it.

Samsung updates: that’s exactly how it works

In addition to faster processors, better cameras, larger batteries and nicer screens, software updates have become more important. A few years ago, a smartphone received one or two major Android updates and two years of security patches.

Nowadays, smartphones are supported for much longer, because manufacturers have significantly improved their update policy. Samsung is a good example of this and, in addition to smartphones, it also offers all kinds of tablets, smartwatches and laptops.

Samsung’s update policy consists of two ‘parts’: the major Android version updates and the smaller (but not unimportant) security patches. In addition, how often updates are released varies per price range.

How long will my Samsung device receive updates?

How long your Samsung phone receives updates mainly depends on how expensive it is. Do you have a smartphone from a high price range, or a cheap entry-level one? Or do you use an affordable tablet, or a high-end model.

But what exactly about the rollout of updates? If we talk about major Android updates, for example Android 15, they will appear when Samsung has optimized the version. Google supplies the software, but manufacturers add their own sauce on top.

In general, Samsung quickly updates more expensive smartphones and only then works on updates for cheaper devices, such as the Galaxy A series.

Then there are the security updates, which fix vulnerabilities in Android. Here too, more expensive phones often receive the patches earlier, but there are also many Galaxy A smartphones that are updated quickly. Samsung has this special website with a handy overview.

This way you can immediately see whether your device is still supported at all and how often. For example, updates are rolled out monthly for many devices. It is also possible that Samsung bundles multiple updates and then releases them quarterly, or even six months.

In addition to smartphones, you will also find all the necessary information on the page about the update frequency of tablets, smartwatches and also (Windows) laptops from the brand. Wondering whether your Samsung will soon be able to get started with Android 15? Then check the large Android 15 update overview.
